Algeria, rich in its geographical and cultural diversity, possesses an exceptional agri-food heritage that serves as a strategic lever for sustainable development. In a global context marked by the challenges of food security, climate change, and nutritional transition, the country is progressively engaging in a scientific and technological approach aimed at modernizing its food system while preserving its natural resources.
In terms of sustainability, Algeria is working to enhance the value of its local production by reducing post-harvest losses, managing water resources more efficiently, and promoting an agriculture that is more environmentally friendly. National research programs encourage the sustainable use of agro-industrial resources and the recovery of agricultural by-products, thus contributing to the development of a circular economy.
Innovation also represents a central pillar in the development of the sector. Research teams, in collaboration with universities and industry, are engaged in the formulation of new value-added products such as functional foods, bioactive packaging, and technological processes aimed at improving food preservation and safety. The integration of emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, and process modeling—paves the way for scientific modernization aligned with international standards.
Finally, health lies at the heart of national priorities. Research in human nutrition, the prevention of metabolic diseases, and the promotion of balanced diets are key components of public policy. Algerian scientists are working to better understand the interactions between food, the microbiota, and overall well-being, while adapting nutritional recommendations to cultural and local specificities.
Through this dynamic, Algeria reaffirms its commitment to building a sustainable, innovative, and health-oriented food system—a model that combines traditional knowledge with modern scientific research, serving both the citizen and national development.
Initiated in 2014 and renewed in 2018 under the name “International Seminar on Food Sciences (SISA),” the event will be relaunched in 2024 as the First International Congress on Food Sciences, following the positive feedback received from previous editions, which have evolved in line with ongoing research and contextual aspirations. Thus, for the year 2025, the Second International Congress on Food Sciences (CISA 2025) will be held under the slogan “Sustainability, Innovation, and Health.”
