Biotechnology has been experiencing a period of intense innovation for several decades that affects many areas. Four sectors are already applying biotechnologies: green biotechnologies find their applications in agriculture and food, white biotechnologies aim to produce molecules from biomass and are the basis of sustainable chemistry, blue biotechnologies designates marine biotechnology, finally red biotechnologies, which interest us here relate to medical applications. In the health sector, the term biotechnology refers in particular to genetic engineering techniques that transfer a gene from one organism to another. It then becomes possible to have a bacterium, yeast or mammalian cell in culture produce a human protein of therapeutic interest, then, after purification, to inject it into the patient. The therapeutic protein thus produced is said to be recombinant. It is in this context, that we opened this specialty whose main objective is the awareness of our students on the possibility of using biotechnologies in the field of Biotherapies, with as a basic framework, the valorization of substances natural (animal, plant and microbial) or recombinant protein therapy (using recombinant DNA technology). The production of these proteins by genetic engineering in prokaryotic cells or in mammalian cells has made it possible to have them in abundance and without risk of contamination, either to substitute for the natural protein previously extracted, either for new uses therapy, especially in cancer.
This training will allow the applicant to accumulate knowledge and know-how in the fields of biotechnology and biotherapy. Also, graduates will be able to boost the following sectors: Research and development ; Mastery of environmental protection processes. Production of innovative substances ; Recovery of substances of biological origin.
